What's In a Name?
Back in the final decades of the 20th century (no specific dates given here for vanity's sake), I attempted to entertain my extended family by producing a series of 'holiday videos' created using a VHS camcorder (that's an oversized, obsolete video recording device for you neophyte youngsters).
That video series was a hit, especially with my nephews and nieces. The youngest niece found them to be particularly entertaining, and when attempting to ask her parents to watch them, she would refer to me, the creator, her Uncle Jeff, as... OB DEFF! Well, that name stuck, and all these decades later those wonderful folks still refer to me in that way.
As for the wood"musing" (instead of woodworking) part, I wanted to celebrate my background as a musician and conductor, someone deeply moved by the mysterious power of making artful things. And as I developed this new creative outlet, I could think of no better label to capture the inquisitive, learning-based, detail-oriented, problem-solving, fully engaging, fun and demanding work involved.
That is (part of) the story of OBDEFF woodmusings
